NOAH Day Center Gets State Support

About_HACHYANNIS – A project to provide services to homeless people in Hyannis got a big boost from the state yesterday.

State Secretary of Housing and Community Development Aaron Gornstein was in Hyannis yesterday to make the announcement that the new day program at the NOAH Center, will receive $200,000 in state funds.

The announcement was made in front of the John F. Kennedy Hyannis Museum on Main Street.

Gornstein credited an unusual coalition with putting the program into place.

Duffy Health Center CEO Heidi Nelson said the coalition included, besides Duffy, Housing Assistance Corporation, which runs the shelter, and Vinfin, which provides services to mentally ill people, the  Hyannis Area Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Hyannis Civic Association and the Hyannis Main Street Business Improvement District.

The grant will allow the center to stay open for the next year.

Part of the grant will go to Duffy to pay for a case manager to help people who come to the day program.
