Hundreds of volunteers are answering calls from kids around the world wanting the latest info on Santa’s status. First lady Michelle Obama is expected to answer some of those calls.

Miles of wire, dozens of computers and 157 telephone lines have been installed at NORAD headquarters at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado.

Volunteers will also share Santa’s location on Facebook and Twitter. Last year, Santa got 1.6 million Facebook likes.

On Dec. 24, 1955, the Continental Air Defense Command Operations Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado, found itself fielding phone calls from children wanting to know the whereabouts of Santa Claus after a newspaper ad mistakenly gave the Center’s number.

The result was a tradition continued by NORAD of tracking Santa’s location the night before Christmas.
