CAPE COD – Starting this week, NSTAR will use a helicopter to perform comprehensive visual inspections of electrical equipment on local rights-of-way across the Cape.
The helicopter, a black Hughes MD 500, is equipped with a high-resolution camera and will hover over certain equipment, sometimes up to five minutes.
NSTAR will be inspecting transmission lines between Bourne and Wellfleet into early November.
The company will also conduct inspections in communities along the Southcoast and the South Shore beginning in late October.
The purpose of the inspections is to ensure the reliability of the region’s transmission system.
