FALMOUTH – More than 40 nurses stood out in the cold at the hospital lights corner in Falmouth this morning as part of an informational picketing session.
A number of cars going by beeped in response to signs, including one that read, “Honk if you love a nurse.”
About 800 nurses that work for Cape Cod Healthcare are negotiating with the company over working conditions.
Another picket line was held this afternoon at Cape Cod Hospital.
Nurse and Secretary of the Bargaining unit, Nikki Powderly was on the Falmouth line this morning. She said the two sides have worked out some of the issues but some major hurdles remain.
“One of the biggest things is that they have cut staffing so tight that when anyone is sick or goes out on leave, their answer to that is to make to force nurses to stay and work an extra shift,” she said.
The company and the nurses are scheduled to go back to the table just before Christmas.
Powdery said there is no strike imminent.
