Obama’s Action on Immigration Draws Reaction From Both Sides

TOWN MEETING VOTESBARNSTABLE – President Obama’s announcement last night of executive actions on immigration is drawing strong reactions from both sides of the aisle.

Republicans have argued against the decision, calling it overreaching. But one local organization says they’re all for it.

The newly created Brazilian New England Chamber of Commerce is in favor of the plan.

“We want to see the whole immigration law applied by congress,” said the Chamber’s Tiago Baptista, “but it’s something he can do right now to help these people get out of the shadows and try to be lawful here in this country.”

Baptista said he knows many people who will benefit from the policy.

“It means they can start living the American dream. They can start paying their taxes. They can start getting the economy growing and helping this country move forward,” Baptista said.
