One Dead, 11 Injured in Hazmat Incident at Manomet School

hazmat symbolPLYMOUTH –  There is one confirmed fatality of a school employee working at Manomet School building in Plymouth and officials are investigating whether hazardous materials caused the death, according to the State Fire Marshal’s office.

The Plymouth District Attorney’s Office says the man found dead Monday was Chester Flattery, 53, a custodian at the school.

First responders were called to the scene after reports of an unresponsive man.

There were 11 people taken to the hospital for evaluation including three firefighters, three police officers, two state troopers, two paramedics and a school employee.

Most have been treated and released.

The State Fire Marshal’s office is reporting that a State Hazardous Materials Response Team has responded to 70 Manomet Point Road, Plymouth, Manomet School, at the request of local officials.

Whether the death is connected to work being done or not is unknown as levels of chemicals in the building are very low.

Additional analysis being conducted.

The office of the chief medical examiner has planned for an autopsy.
