Orleans Town Officials Move Forward with New DPW Facility

ORLEANS – The Orleans Department of Public Works has received bids for their new facility and they’re pleased with the numbers they’re seeing.

Initial estimates for the building were around $17 million a few years ago, but the bids came in at over $13 million.

Selectmen agreed last month to recommend the article to voters at Town Meeting and at the ballot box.

“We’re quite pleased with the results of the bids, we had four general bidders submit,” said Orleans DPW Director Tom Daley.

If approved, construction will begin after Labor Day.

The new facility will house six main operating areas, including workshop space, maintenance and an administration area.

“It’s been a long time coming, we’ve done our homework, there’s been a lot of work done and we’re very, very pleased with the results,” said Chairman of the Facilities Committee Peter Coneen.

Currently the department is in buildings throughout Orleans and town officials say that they have structurally inadequate.
