Osterville Library Displays Marine Art Exhibit

OSTERVILLE – A collection of maritime art from the 19th and 20th centuries is on display at the Osterville Village Library.

Dr. Dunn began collecting maritime art with his wife Eleanor in the 1980s and until recently the collection had been shared with family, friends and at their businesses, New England Fine Art and Freeman’s Reach Fine Art.

The exhibition, The Lure and Lore of Marine Art, will be on display at the library through September.

Dunn says the goal of the exhibit is to display the paintings, along with pointing out their historical and geographic connections through carefully researched descriptions.

He says the descriptions transform the marine art into historical documents.

Beginning last year, Dunn has collaborated with curators from the Cape Cod Maritime Museum and the Osterville Village Library to share the maritime art during the summer season.

Dunn will speak about the collection at the library May 30 at 5 p.m. A second speaking event will be held in August.
