Outer Cape Health Discusses Expansion Plans for Harwich

HARWICH – Plans for Outer Cape Health Services to move to an office complex known as the Kennedy building over the next two years were presented to Harwich selectmen recently.

Those plans include the expansion of the building, which will feature an 18-room health center on the first floor and administrative offices on the second.

“We’ll be offering primary care, behavioral health and a family resource center which is going to be behavioral health services for families and for children, adolescents and young adults,” said Andy Lowe, director of program resources management. “That’s going to be one of our new offerings.”

The Kennedy building was formerly Thompson’s Farm Market.

Call Center staff will move into the building this month, followed by 32 administrative staff next month.

Twelve exam rooms will be open at the new site next summer and the remaining six will open in 2019.

“We are anticipating that we will have in the neighborhood of 30,000 visits per year once we’re up and running, fully-loaded, that will be after all 18 rooms are up and going,” said Lowe.

Plans also include the launch of the Navigator Program, with expanded pediatrics, dermatology and behavioral services.

Outer Cape officials negotiated for the lease of the building last summer and estimate that renovations for the new site will cost around $6.8 million.

Outer Cape Health Services currently has three locations, including a site on Chatham Road in Harwich and in Provincetown and Wellfleet.
