Pipeline Work to be Conducted by National Grid in Buzzards Bay

BUZZARDS BAY – Nine roads will be affected in Buzzards Bay starting Thursday, as National Grid plans to upgrade natural gas pipelines.

There will be infrastructure upgrades to gas mains on Puritan Road, Van Bummel Road, Rip Van Winkle Way, Neck Vedder Road, Lincoln Avenue, Electric Avenue, Gardinier Avenue, Buzzards Bay Avenue and Washington Avenue.

Construction will take place Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and is expected to be completed by the end of August.

“This is a routine upgrade, this is us wanting to put in new gas mains because some of our gas mains are older and this will ensure that we keep the gas flowing 365 days a year without any service interruptions,” said National Grid spokeswoman Amy O’Hearn.

Work includes marking out underground utilities, excavation of the street and placement of new gas mains and re-laying of customer gas services.

“We are upgrading natural gas infrastructure that will help us to provide safe and reliable natural gas for our customers for the years to come,” said O’Hearn.

All National Grid employees and contractors doing work will be required to carry proper identification.
