Plans for Riverwalk in Yarmouth Moving Forward

YARMOUTH – Plans for a Riverwalk concept at the site of the former West Yarmouth Drive-in are underway.

Engineering firm BETA will produce a feasibility study and preliminary design later this year.

Around $84,000 for the design and study was approved at Annual Town Meeting last year.

The proposed project would have recreational facilities along Parkers River, with a possible boardwalk that would link the area to Seagull Beach across a marsh.

“It’s a feasibility and concept design for the Riverwalk and the boardwalk,” said Director of Community Development Karen Greene. “We like both ideas but I think it may be important to look at both of them, there may be different environmental and permitting type concerns associated with each.”

As part of the process, the town will conduct surveys and have open meetings with residents for outreach.

“We’ll be having different presentation meetings where the ideas and concepts will get vetted and we’ll do our best to advertise those broadly,” said Greene.
