COTUIT – Cotuit Center for the Arts presents “PlayPen: A 24-Hour Theater Experiment” on Saturday, September 9, at 7:30 PM.
When a group of actors, directors, and playwrights walk into an empty theatre, there’s going to be a play.
Usually, there have been years, or at least months, of work leading up to that day: playwrights agonizing, directors dramatizing, designers conceptualizing, producers maneuvering, marketers tempting, actors chop-honing.
On Friday, September 8, about three dozen theatre artists will meet as a group for the first time, do all the above, and present six new short plays to a jam-packed house the following evening.
It is called the PlayPen, and it’s no place for the weak.
For PlayPenners, it’s a test of experience, confidence, and flexibility, a chance to shine under pressure.
For the audience, it’s a chance to see new works by a variety of local playwrights, actors, and directors.
PlayPen participants will meet for the first time as a group the evening before the performance.
Each of six playwrights will be matched with a director, and actors will be assigned to each of the six companies.
