HARWICH – An extensive study of the 9,000-acre Pleasant Bay on the Lower Cape is getting underway.
The Center for Coastal Studies in Provincetown has been hired to perform the study.
Richard Delaney, president of the Center for Coastal Studies, said the work is important to get a look at the overall picture of the bay as a baseline for further study.
The first phase will involve executing a very detailed mapping of the sea floor of Pleasant Bay,” Delaney said.
He said a side scan radar unit is being used for the mapping.
Friends of Pleasant Bay raised $180,000 from private donors to fund the study.
Delaney said the study is expected to take two to three years.
