Progress Made on new Orleans Police Station

ORLEANS – Major progress is being made at the site of the new Orleans Police Station.

The foundation has been poured, the steel infrastructure raised, initial electric systems installed, and some of the concrete blocking laid in place.

Police chief Scott MacDonald said construction is on schedule.

“Even with a few days of bad weather, the project is progressing very well,” he told Orleans selectmen recently.

MacDonald said a few unforeseen issues have arisen, but they are relatively minor and not concerning.

Meanwhile, the department continues to operate at its temporary headquarters near the Old Legion building.

Brewster and the Barnstable County Sheriff’s office have helped out by keeping detainees in their facilities.

The police chief said he is also grateful for the work of chairman of the building committee Tom Finan.

“The time that he has invested in this is remarkable and we really appreciate what he has done,” MacDonald said.

Orleans voters approved the $11.5 million project at Town Meeting and the ballot box in 2016.
