Rep. Mannal, Chaprales Race Gets Ugly

election boxHYANNIS – The gloves are off in the race for state representative in the Second Barnstable District.

The incumbent, Brian Mannal, is accusing his challenger Republican Adam Chaprales of distorting his record. The matter heated up when Mannal showed up at Chaprales’s house Saturday.

Mannal said he was in the neighborhood knocking on doors and campaigning and he happened to be in front of Chaprales’s house. He said he was just seeking to get Chaprales’s phone number so he could return some yard signs.

But Chaprales said the incident turned threatening and he called police, not to press charges but to make sure the visit was logged in case it happened again.

To two have agreed to debate so voters can make their own decision.

The district, which covers the Town of Barnstable and parts of Yarmouth, also saw a heated election when Mannal won the seat four years ago against longtime incumbent Demetrius Atsalis.

Both Mannal and Chaprales say the other one owes an apology. From Mannal’s point of view, Chaprales needs to apologize for what he termed his “campaign of deception,” and Chaprales said he is owed an apology because of the Mannals behavior at the house.

The election is November 4.
