Republican Vinnie deMacedo will succeed State Senate President Therese Murray in representing the Plymouth and Barnstable District.

Republican Tim Whelan will replace retiring Democrat Cleon Turner in representing the First Barnstable District at the State House.

Republican State Committeeman for the Cape and Islands, Fran Manzelli, says he expects deMacedo and Whelan to capably represent their constituencies.

“Hopefully they will help bring balance to the government and help keep taxes lower and deal with the issues of transparency and connecting with the people of their communities,” he said.

The Cape’s legislative delegation is now evenly split between Democrats and Republicans.
