About 100 residents, town officials, and community stakeholders attended the Community Visioning Forum at Provincetown Town Hall, which focuses on plans for the next 15 to 20 years.

“We looked at our last long-term comprehensive plan for Provincetown that’s about 15 years old now from when it was started and began to lay out what the town wants to see in 15 years from now,” said Tom Donegan, the Chairman of the Provincetown Board of Selectmen.

Many of the attendees spoke of the desire to keep a year-round population in town. In the 2010 census, Provincetown lost the largest percentage of its year-round population of any town in Massachusetts.

“People want to make sure that the town survives in something akin to its current form and sort of honoring the heritage of the town where we have a vibrant year-round community,” Donegan said.

“It will always be a great place to vacation in the summer, but [Provincetown] is not just that,” Donegan added.

Stakeholders also addressed the need for more affordable housing and creating a community where families can live and raise children.

The meeting comes as the town works on the Local Comprehensive Plan, a state document that details policies and objectives for communities over the course of a ten year period.
