Rotary Club of Nantucket Raising Money to Combat Opioid Addiction

NANTUCKET – The Nantucket Rotary Club has raised $100,000 for opioid addiction treatment.

The club is helping Dr. Tim Lepore fund a professional addiction counselor to his medication clinic.

In an effort to combat the major health crisis on the island, the club has also undertaken an awareness campaign to share information of resources available to those seeking help for themselves, their family and/or friends.

“Our island, we consider to be a big family and everybody on that island is important to us and we also, being 30 miles out to sea, don’t have the resources that Massachusetts has,” said Nantucket Rotary Club president Laura Burnett.

The club has created and sponsored a new website at stopaddictionnantucket.org to provide information on where to get help.

A new 501(c)(3) fund has been established by the club to accept donations for opioid addiction.

“As we go out and talk to everyone in the community, you don’t realize how much it’s affected the businesses and how much it affects a lot of locals just personally,” said Burnett.

The rotary club is also planning on hosting a fundraiser at the Great Harbor Yacht Club during Daffodil weekend to raise money for addiction solutions.
