HYANNIS – A Roxbury man faces charges after police say they found him in illegal possession of a handgun.
Wyreem Price, 28, was in a vehicle pulled over on Route 28 in Hyannis by members of the Barnstable Street Crime Unit. Officers say they found a loaded .45 caliber handgun in the car.
Members of the Barnstable Street Crime Unit were conducting surveillance Wednesday on a motel on Route 132 in Hyannis having to do with an ongoing larceny investigation.
The larceny happened on Sunday, November 16, when a computer was stolen from a Hyannis retail store. The theft was captured on the store’s surveillance system and the suspect was believed to be staying at the motel.
Street Crime Unit officers saw a man fitting the description of the suspect getting into a Jeep SUV in the motel parking lit. There were five others in the Jeep and it was driver by a 19-year-old from Brewster.
Police stopped the Jeep on Route 28 near the Airport Plaza in Hyannis but the larceny suspect was not in the vehicle.
Instead, they found a loaded Glock .45 caliber handgun with a 13-round magazine.
Price has a criminal history that includes convictions and state prison terms for cocaine distribution, assault with a dangerous weapon and illegal possession of a firearm. His weapons arrests in Boston took place in May 2011, April 2008, January 2008 and August 2004.
Price faces multiple firearms charges. He is being held on $20,000 cash bail and will be arraigned today in Barnstable District Court.
