HARWICH – Safety improvements are coming for bikers and motorists alike at a busy intersection in Harwich.
A new signal will be installed at the intersection of the Old Colony Rail Trail and Route 39; the signal will warn motorists if bikers are approaching the crossing.
“The Rail Trail crosses at a pretty good angle so for motorists and for bicyclists its hard to get a good view of oncoming traffic,” said Harwich Selectman Ed McManus.
The installation will cost $12,500. The money comes from Community Preservation funds. McManus says it’s well worth adding the signal to make the crossing safer.
“Watching it over the summer it’s been a great recreational draw to our area. The amount of traffic down there is just overwhelming, and we just want to make it safe for everybody.”
