Sandwich Accepting Contractor Bids for Public Safety Complex

SANDWICH – The Town of Sandwich is currently accepting bids for work on the new public safety complex.

Subcontractor bids, which include work on plumbing and electrical systems is due on Wednesday while major contractor offers must be filed by June 7.

The town will award the contracts during the selectmen’s meeting on June 15, with construction expected to start in late summer.

“It did feel really good once those formal bid specs got out the door, and I think we felt that either way we’re going to accomplish something at the end, so that’s very positive,” said Town Manager Bud Dunham.

The target completion date is December 2018 or January 2019.

Dunham agrees that this project will be a boon for the community.

“It puts our public safety officials right where they need to be in the heart of the community plus it should professionalize things greatly because if anyone has seen our currently facilities, they were built in the 1960s and 1970s,” said Dunham.

Town Meeting voters approved $17 million last year to fund the complex.

The facility will include a new police headquarters and fire substation.
