Sandwich Celebrates National Poetry Month with Three Events for All Ages

SANDWICH – The Literary Arts Group of the Sandwich Arts Alliance honors National Poetry Month with three events for children, high school students and adults.

The events take place April 1-9 with a Poetry Fest finale featuring town celebrities reciting their favorite poems, both light-hearted and serious.

National Poetry Month was introduced in 1996 and organized by the Academy of American Poets to increase awareness and appreciation of poetry in the U.S. and in that spirit, Sandwich Arts Alliance is proud to present the events.

“Poetry for Children” takes place on April 1 from 10:30-12 p.m. at the Sandwich Public Library.

In this program, participants will learn how poets use like and unlike sounds, repetitions and variations, to create works of art.

“Dust Off Your Inner Poet” takes place on April 8 from 12-2 p.m. at the Library.

This is a fun poetry writing workshop geared towards teens and adults, whether seasoned or new to the field.

And “Poetry Fest” the second annual event of its kind, takes place on April 9 from 3-5 p.m. at Sandwich Town Hall.

The event features original and favorite poems to be read or recited by a group of well-known townspeople including State Representative Randy Hunt and Jay Pateakos with the Sandwich Chamber of Commerce.
