Sandwich Chamber Moving Forward with new Site

shopping02SANDWICH – The Sandwich Chamber of Commerce is re-starting its efforts to move their headquarters to a new location on a three-acre parcel of land on Route 130.

The location will better enable chamber officials to steer visitors to shopping, museums and other chamber members in town.

Currently, the chamber is operating  a small visitor center at the location, but the chamber’s administrative offices are elsewhere. The current chamber building also has only a port-a-potty, rather than a proper bathroom.

Sandwich selectmen have voted to put out a request for proposals on the land and discussions of a new headquarters have begun.

Sandwich Chamber Director Jay Pateakos said the new location is needed for a new larger visitor center, so that the visitor center can be properly staffed and so that visitors can have access to a bathroom.

The chamber previously withdrew from the project last March after the organization was unable to secure funding.

Pateakos said finances are now in the black and they are looking to pursue the project.

The town is also considering moving an ambulance and fire substation to the location as well.
