Sandwich Grist Mill Ticket Booth Auctioned Off

Jay Briggs with the Grist Mill Ticket Booth

SANDWICH – A piece of Sandwich town history was auctioned off to the highest bidder on Friday.

The old ticket booth for the Dexter Grist Mill was sold to Jay Briggs for $575.

The auction was held in the parking lot of the Sandwich School for Early Learning.

Briggs said that it was a sentimental purchase.

“I grew up in town and from the time I was a very young boy we used to go down to Shawme Pond and feed the ducks and swans, and I can remember the structure being there, from the time I was 5 or 6 years old,” said Briggs.

The ticket booth is being replaced with a more updated, spacious ticket booth, and is part of the ongoing reconstruction work on the Shawme Pond.

Briggs said that he has plans to place the old ticket booth at his home.

“It’s definitely going to be an esthetic feature in the yard, I don’t know exactly where we’re going to situate it yet, but I’m sure we’ll make it happen,” said Briggs.
