Sandwich Pursues Process for Bathhouse Building at Town Neck Beach

TownNeckBeachSANDWICH – While tons of sand are being moved to Town Neck Beach for a renourishment project, Sandwich officials will accept contract applications for planning a restroom and snack concession building.

Town Manager Bud Dunham said the building would ideally be situated at the parking lot at the east end of Wood Avenue Extension.

He said the town held off on the idea until they could get the re-nourishment squared away.

“We haven’t wanted to invest money just to have a storm come and take it away,” he said.

The town doesn’t have the money yet for such a project, but the fiscal 2016 budget include funding a feasibility study. The study requires a period where the town accepts requests for qualifications to be reviewed in January.

Actual construction may take longer to begin, Dunham said, due to the re-nourishment and other town projects.

Dunham said an architect should be under contract by February 1st, with conceptual drawings made by March 8th. All preliminary design and cost estimates should be completed by April 8th.

The beach did at one time have a restroom facility, but Dunham said that had to be torn down due to plumbing concerns.
