HYANNIS – The State Senate has approved a $40 billion budget, which includes money for education, workforce development, health and human services and housing.
Cape and Islands State Senator Julian Cyr said that he secured $500,000 in local aide for Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket and $1.9 million for statewide programs supporting small business development and at-risk youth programs.
Children’s Cove will receive $140,000, Housing Assistance Corporation will get $85,000 and Community Development Partnership will receive $50,000.
“These programs provide vital services to residents of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket,” said Cyr. “I am honored to do my part to ensure that the most vulnerable children receive the care and compassion they deserve, that those dealing with housing instability are supported, and that our public safety servicemen and women are provided with the training necessary to keep our communities safe.”
The budget will now go to the Conference Committee with House members, where a compromise spending plan will be negotiated before it is sent to the Governor to be signed into law.
