Shackled Prisoner Tries to Escape from Deputies

police carFALMOUTH – A man awaiting trial for allegedly running people over in Chatham attempted an escape from two Barnstable County Sheriff’s Deputies outside of Falmouth District Court yesterday.

The only problem: He was still wearing waist chains and leg irons.

Deputies were placing Benjamin Shealey, 32, of Boston, into a prison van when he decided to make a run for it.

After a few seconds, Deputies Edward Osgood and Ronald Parkinson had Shealey back in custody.

No one was injured during the attempted escape and Shealey is back at the Barnstable County Correctional Facility in Bourne.

Shealey is being held without bail on charges, which include motor vehicle homicide by reckless operation for the incident in Chatham.

The trip to Falmouth District Court was for lesser charges incurred while incarcerated at BCCF including vandalizing sheriff’s office property and setting a false alarm on an emergency call box.
