Spaulding Rehab Addition to be Topic of Sandwich Appeals Hearing Tonight

homebuildingSANDWICH – The Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in East Sandwich is trying to build a two-story addition to keep up with increasing patient demand. A hearing on that project will take place tonight at the Board of Appeals meeting.

The facility on Service Road has been in service for 20 years and has treated nearly 80,000 patients, according to Vice President of Operations Stephanie Nadolny.

Now, she said, it is time to build an 8,403-square-foot, two-story addition in order to add staff to serve an influx of patients.

“We’re pretty creative with scheduling, but if we add this square footage, we’ll be able to add additional physicians and therapists to get people in quicker,” Nadolny said. “We could even do some just-in-time appointments if there’s a new sports injury.”

The operation would require permission from the Sandwich Board of Appeals and the town’s assistant engineer to review drainage concerns.

If approved, the project is expected to begin in December.
