Spectacle of Trees Wrapping Up Saturday

HYANNNIS –  This year’s Spectacle of Trees event is still going on through Saturday night at the JFK Museum in Hyannis.

Sixteen trees have been creatively decorated with a theme.

The annual event benefits local nonprofits. People can buy “tree bucks” that cost $10 toward any of the trees. A drawing for one winner for each tree takes place Sunday. The winner of a tree gets all the prizes associated with the tree.

The cumulative value of each tree’s prizes range from $1,500 to $10,000, according to Bill Murphy, of Cape Cod Funraisers, which organizes the event.

The number of tickets sold is down from last year, according to Murphy.

“Turnout has been affected by the weather. We had less than half the people this year that came on the [Hyannis Main Street] stroll this year. Last year we had 2,250 and this year we had about 1,100,” Murphy said.

To try to win a tree, purchase “tree bucks” at the Museum through Saturday night.
