State Announces $3.9 Million in Grants for Land Protection Projects

sk_centerville-gov-baker-and-local-candidates-visit-monomoy-circle_11-03-16-43FALMOUTH – The state has announced more than $3.9 million in grant awards to 13 communities to protect over 900 acres of land through the local acquisitions through the Local Acquisitions for Natural Diversity (LAND) Grant Program.

The grant program seeks to address climate change and protect biodiversity within the borders of the Commonwealth.

Falmouth will receive $400,000 to acquire a conservation restriction of over 69 acres of woodland at Shallow Pond.

Harwich is getting $400,000 to purchase a conservation restriction of over 17 acres of land at the headwaters of Muddy Creek.

The Town of Plymouth will receive more than $263,000 to acquire 43 acres of woodland, located within walking distance to the Eel River.

“Our administration continues to invest in open space and habitat conservation to ensure that individuals and families across the Commonwealth have an opportunity to experience everything our state’s natural environment has to offer,” said Governor Charlie Baker.
