BOURNE – State police arrested a Coast Guard petty officer Wednesday morning at Joint Base Cape Cod for possession of child pornography.

An arrest warrant had been issued for Ryan Ruff, 32, of West Barnstable after an investigation by state police.

He was arraigned in Falmouth District Court Wednesday and is being held at the Barnstable County Correctional Facility pending bracelet monitoring.

Ruff is a Petty Officer 2nd class with a rank of E5 and worked as an electronics technician at the Coast Guard base on Joint Base Cape Cod, according to Petty Officer 2nd Class Cynthia Oldham, a spokesperson for the Coast Guard.

“What he is charged with is not in alignment with our core values of honor, respect and devotion of duty and is certainly not tolerated in the Coast Guard,” in a statement read by Oldham. “We are working with law enforcement to support and ensure a thorough investigation.”

Ruff was arrested on Sunday in Bourne by state police for his second OUI offense, unlicensed operation, negligent operation and failure to use care in stopping.

State police are not releasing any further information at this time.
