NANTUCKET – Stop & Shop has agreed to allow Nantucket Cottage Hospital to use land at its mid-island location as a staging area for the construction of the new hospital.
As part of the agreement the grocery store chain has also waived all fees for the use of the property saving the hospital about $1.2 million.
The Nantucket Planning board approved a permit for the staging area adjacent to the Boys & Girls Club and between Sparks Avenue and Pleasant Street.
Stop & Shop previously used the location as a staging area for the construction of the mid-island grocery store.
The hospital will soon break ground on its new facility and construction is expected to last about 18 months.
