HYANNIS – Zoe Wolf and Siobhan Henshaw wanted to make a difference in the region by bringing young people into the community conversation.

The two childhood friends who grew up in Harwich have started the nonprofit Plain Talk Cape Cod, with a mission to amplify the voices of young people on Cape Cod so that the community might better understand the challenges they face and help to meet their needs.

According to Wolf and Henshaw, at Plain Talk, the focus is on youth and listening. “We ask the young people. We are interested in their stories. Plain Talk believes that everyone can make valuable contributions to their community, just by speaking up. We want to help youth across Cape Cod get the word out on what life is like for them and what they need to thrive—and we want to make sure that the decision makers are listening,” they wrote on their website.

Their initiatives so far have been designed to focus on healthy activities that would attract youth and that young people would enjoy.

Project X is their name for events and programming by and for young people that they are sponsoring, such as a recent “rave” at the Boys and Girls Club of Cape Cod in Mashpee.

Their column “25 Under 25,” appearing in local newspapers, focuses on the experience of being young on Cape Cod.

C3TV is a local access television production project producing, as they put it, “TV for young people, from conception to production, and all the steps in between.”
