YARMOUTH – The St. Patrick’s Day festivities get underway this weekend on Cape Cod with the 10th annual Cape Cod St. Patrick’s Parade on Saturday, March 7 at 11 a.m. in Yarmouth.

With the recent bout of storms, the Cape Cod St. Patrick’s Parade Committee reminds people that the parade is on as scheduled and the roads and sidewalks will be cleared to allow for safe viewing.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation will be working in conjunction with the Yarmouth Department of Public Works to clear the parade corridor prior to Saturday. The route will begin at Bass River Sports World at the intersection of Long Pond Drive and Route 28 in South Yarmouth and follow Route 28 west ending at The Town ‘n’ Country Motel.

“I have received a commitment from MassDOT to provide assistance clearing snow from the sidewalks and viewing areas in time for the parade,” said State Representative Tim Whelan (R-Brewster). “I am heartened that the importance of this event for our local economy has been clearly recognized and look forward to a fantastic parade this Saturday.”

The family-friendly event will feature a dozen marching bands, floats, Irish Step Dancers, costumed characters and much more. WCVB-TV Meteorologist Cindy Fitzgibbon will headline the parade as this year’s Grand Marshal.  Jonas Gray, running back for the Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots, joins the parade as the honorary mayor.

The celebration will continue long after the parade at dozens of restaurants and establishments throughout Yarmouth.  Complimentary trollies will run up and down Route 28 from 3 until 11 p.m. courtesy of the Yarmouth Restaurant Association.

And the Yarmouth Police Department will activate Operation Save Drive Home by offering free taxi service from 6 PM until 2 AM.  Any citizen who needs a safe ride home from a Yarmouth licensed liquor establishment should call Town Taxi directly at 508-775-5555.

“We’re looking forward to a great family event and won’t let a little snow stand in the way,” said Parade Co-chair John Fallon. “Let’s all come out to celebrate St. Patty’s Day and the coming spring.”
