Randy HuntState Representative Randy Hunt, a Republican, has a Democratic challenger, Matthew Terry, in this year’s election.

Hunt represents the Fifth Barnstable District, which includes Sandwich and parts of Bourne, Barnstable and Plymouth.

Randy Hunt and his wife, Mary, have six grown children and seven grandchildren.

Hunt began his public service activities in 2001 when he was invited to join the Town of Sandwich’s finance committee. Three years later, he won election to the board of selectmen and served two three-year terms.

Randy Hunt was sworn in as state representative from the 5th Barnstable District on January 5, 2011.

In 1981, fresh out of college with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, he entered the firm of Peat Marwick Mitchell, then the second largest partnership of certified public accountants in the world. During his eight-year stay with Peat Marwick, now KPMG LLP, he was promoted to senior manager in the audit practice and spent two years in the firm’s executive office in New York City.

In 1989, Hunt left KPMG to become a plant controller with a publicly-traded company that manufactures infrared optical sensors and emitters used in office machinery and automobiles. Four years later, he was recruited by another publicly-traded company to become general manager of their EMI filter business unit.

Hunt was promoted to chief financial officer with the same company.

Hunt then established his own CPA practice.

Hunt is a member of the following committees at the state house: Mental Health and Substance Abuse Joint Committee, the Revenue Joint Committee, Telecommunications, and the Utilities and Energy Joint Committee.

He is an appointee to the Interagency Council on Substance Abuse and Prevention, the Criminal Justice Commission and the Tax Fairness Commission.

He is also a member of the Barnstable County Regional Substance Abuse Council and the Town of Sandwich Substance Abuse Prevention Task Force.

He is a reader for Audible Local Ledger in Mashpee, a sponsor of the Sandwich 375 Anniversary Committee  and the Glass Town Gala, and a member of the Monument Beach Sportsman’s Club, the Sandwich Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association, Sandwich Chamber of Commerce, Canal Region Chamber of Commerce, Sandwich Community Television, the Sandwich Republican Town Committee, the Massachusetts Society of CPAs and the American Institute of CPAs.
