HYANNIS – A collaborative task force comprised of more than 50 community organizations recently launched the Quality of Life Initiative, an educational outreach program to encourage adults of all ages to complete healthcare proxies and advance care directives.

The task force will be visiting community centers, residential communities and human service organizations across the Cape to discuss the importance these documents, which help guide individuals’ healthcare during a medical situation where they cannot speak for themselves.

It’s a conversation that not everyone is ready or willing to have.

“It’s a complicated process,” said Tina Soares, VNA of Cape Cod Nurse.

“Sometimes it’s a topic or conversation individuals don’t want to have or how to approach it, so the members of our group are really getting out there in the community to provide those tools and making less scary.”
