Teen Jogger Struck By Minivan in Centerville Suffers Severe Injuries

CENTERVILLE – A 17-year-old jogger was transported to Brigham and Women’s Hospital after being hit by a minivan this morning on Falmouth Road (Route 28) in Centerville.

Barnstable Police Sergeant Sean Sweeney identified the woman as Chaya Morocow, 17, of Brooklyn, New York. She was visiting Cape Cod for the Passover holiday, according to Sgt. Sweeney.

The accident occurred at 8 a.m. on Route 28 at the intersection of Phinney’s Lane.

According to Sgt. Sweeney, Morocow was using the crosswalk and had successfully crossed the two westbound lanes of Route 28. About three cars were stopped at a red arrow in the left turn lane on the eastbound side of Route 28, but cars travelling straight through the light had a green light.

After passing the cars in the left turn lane, Morocow reportedly stepped into the center lane and was hit by the minivan and thrown about fifty feet, according to Sgt. Sweeney.

She was transported via ambulance to a trauma center off Cape. Sgt. Sweeney said she is at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston with traumatic injuries.

Police closed roads and diverted traffic around the accident until the scene was cleared.
