Third Workshop to be Held Today on Outer Cape Bike Plan

pt051615a bikePROVINCETOWN – A third public workshop will be held next week to get input for the Outer Cape Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan.

The Cape Cod National Seashore, Cape Cod Commission and the towns of Provincetown, Truro and Wellfleet are developing plans for an interconnected network that will link to the Cape Cod Rail Trail.

The public workshop will be held on Thursday, November 12 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at Provincetown Town Hall.

“We’re looking to hear from people on what their preferred primary route would be through the Outer Cape towns,” said Martha Hevenor, a planner with the Cape Cod Commission.

The first two public workshops were held in Truro and Wellfleet.

“In those initial workshops we developed concepts for primary and secondary routes and heard what people are looking for in bicycle and pedestrian connections in the towns,” Hevenor said.

Hevenor said the first two meetings were well attended and they have received a lot of input from the public.

“People are very interested in safer bicycling and improving conditions in the three towns,” she said. “And providing better connections from the end of the rail trail to Provincetown.”

Hevenor said there are several different types of bicycle riders on the Outer Cape including commuters, recreational riders and families that all offer different skill levels.

One of the purposes of the plan is “to try to meet the needs of the varying abilities of the people on bikes,” she said.

Another goal of the plan is to provide safety for the riders in the area.

“We are taking that issue and that goal very seriously in the planning for an extension of the rail trail,” Hevenor said.

The workshop will be interactive and provide residents the opportunity to give input on the proposed routes and mark up maps.

“We are really eager to hear what people have to say,” Hevenor said. “Our previous two workshops have been very positive and the information we have gotten has been extremely helpful in helping to develop the plan.”
