Pediatrician Arrested on Child Pornography Charges in Mashpee

police carBOSTON – A semi-retired pediatrician living in Mashpee was arrested in his home this morning on charges of possession and distribution of child pornography.

The Mashpee Police executed a search warrant at the home of Dr. Daniel J. O’Hern, 64, on Lowell Road following an investigation into the use of peer-to-peer file sharing programs.

Police seized a number of digital devices from the residence including computers, hard drives and other media storage devices.

The Barnstable Police Department and the United States Postal Service assisted the Mashpee PD in the investigation.

O’Hern appeared for an initial court appearance today in Boston before Magistrate Judge Robert B. Collings.

He will remain in custody pending a detention hearing which is scheduled for 1:45 p.m. Friday.

O’Hern faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted on the distribution counts with a minimum mandatory of five years and a lifetime of supervised release.

The possession charges carry a sentence of up to 10 years in prison.
