Town of Falmouth in Running to License Nobska Light

Nobska-LightFALMOUTH – The Coast Guard is seeking a steward of Nobska Light, and the Town of Falmouth has expressed interest.

The town is working with a number of non-profit organizations who are hoping to oversee the operation of the iconic light.

Falmouth Town Manager Julian Suso said, “Selectmen authorized and I did transmit a letter to the Coast Guard indicating the Town of Falmouth’s interests and that we would be cooperating with a number of different nonprofit entities including museum and historic entities if our proposal is accepted.”

The Coast Guard is looking to license the light rather than sell it, Suso explained. The Guard would still own the lighthouse but the licensee would operate it.

“The coast guard has an interest in licensing the property which would entail exercising stewardship over the property rather of ownership which would entail maintaining the property and making it available to the public,” he said.
