Treatment Leaders to Gather for Substance Abuse Resources Forum in Sandwich

SANDWICH – Substance Abuse treatment leaders will come together tomorrow for a community forum to discuss the services and programs available across the Cape to help individuals with addicition issues.

“Cape Cod Addiction Crisis: Help is Right Here!,” hosted by Recovering Champions, a substance abuse treatment facility with locations in Falmouth and Sandwich, is Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Sandwich Town Hall.

The forum will help the public navigate the numerous services offered and their limitations and advantages.

“We’re coming together as a group as the leaders of the recovery community to let people know what services are offered, how they are different what insurance is – those sorts of things,” said Steven O’Connell, the director of professional relations for Recovering Champions.

O’Connell said the type of information provided just can’t be found on the internet.

“Actually meeting representatives of companies, hearing what they have to offer, being able to get brochures and educationing yourself about what’s available right here at home is the purpose of the event,” O’Connell said.

Recovering Champions’ Case Manager David Cooper said the event is for everyone – even individuals who don’t know anyone who currently needs services.

“Eventually everybody is touched by this sooner or later whether it’s a loved one, a friend, a coworker,” Cooper said. “And they might be able to help them navigate that when they do run across it.”

The panel will also provide information on the several free services in the region.

The event is free but space is limited.
