TRURO – Voters in Truro last night elected Maureen Burgess to the board of selectmen. Burgess defeated John Dundas for the seat by 19 votes for a total of 251 to 232.
In the other contested race, Monica Kraft held off a challenge from Bertram Perkel and will remain as Town Moderator. The final tally was 258 votes for Kraft and 222 for Perkel.
Voters also approved $465,000 dollars in permanent tax increases in a series of Proposition 2 1/2 overrides.
A portion of the increase, a total of $136,590, will be used to add two full-time police officers to the town’s police department, as well as $88,525 for funding more shifts for fire and rescue crews. The vote for police staff passed by a vote of 278 to 213. The vote for additional fire and rescue shifts was approved by 351 votes to 139.
