Two Fatal Fires Within a Week Caused by Smoking Materials

fire department patchPLYMOUTH – For the second time within a week, a fire caused by the improper disposal of smoking materials has resulted in a fatality.

A person in a second floor apartment on Suosso Lane in Plymouth died in an early morning blaze Wednesday morning.

The name of the victim has not been released pending identification, according to the Plymouth District Attorney’s office.

Plymouth firefighters responded to 2 Suosso Lane just before 2 a.m. and found the building engulfed.

A preliminary investigation shows the fire was not suspicious and started in a bedroom where the body was found.

David Cleary, 32, was killed last Wednesday on Martha’s Vineyard in a fire also believed to have started by smoking materials.

This is the 17th fire death in the commonwealth so far in 2015.
