Value of Sales Up But Number of Sales Down in Barnstable County Real Estate

house for saleBARNSTABLE – The number of real estate sales in Barnstable County was down 4.3 percent last month compared to May 2013, according to newly released statistics from the Barnstable County Registry of Deeds.

In total, there were 693 deeds recorded at the Barnstable Registry of Deeds in May 2014 with values above $50,000. The median value of properties over $50,000 in Barnstable County was $329,000.

Barnstable County Register of Deeds John F. Meade said the numbers are more indicative of how strong last year’s numbers were than any indication of a dip.

The total value of sales in May was down 9.9 percent from the previous year.

But the median individual property sale value was up by 2.8 percent from the previous year.

In the good news column for property owners, there was a 41.2 percent decrease in the volume of mortgage activity from May 2013 levels. There were eight this month, as compared to 18 in May 2013. For the year, the mortgage volume is down 48.6 percent.

He said the total value of sales so far this year is up 1.6 percent.
