Vehicle Strikes Propane Tank in Wellfleet

Car CrashesWELLFLEET – A motor vehicle struck a propane tank at the Wellfleet Marketplace on Main Street in Wellfleet Friday afternoon.

Wellfleet Police and Fire crews responded to the store just before 4 p.m. and evacuated the marketplace and closed Main Street and adjacent roads as a precaution.

Fire Crews and a propane technician made temporary repairs to the tank and the area was deemed safe.

Nancy Gropper, 70, of New York, was the driver and only occupant of the Toyota Rav 4 that struck the tank.

Gropper was taken to Cape Cod Hospital for evaluation.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation by the Wellfleet Police Department.

Eastham and Truro Police and Fire crews assisted Wellfleet crews with the call.
