MARTHA’S VINEYARD – The latest of the commonwealth’s 25 cultural districts is on Martha’s Vineyard.
The state recognized the Vineyard Haven Harbor Cultural District last month.
The designation means the area will be promoted in the state’s marketing materials that promote tourism.
Martha’s Vineyard Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Nancy Gardella said there’s a lot packed into the district, an approximately one-mile area around Vineyard Haven Harbor that includes architects, ship builders and artists.
The recognition comes after a yearlong process where state officials visited the area as they deliberated where to make the designation.
There are also four cultural districts on Cape Cod in Hyannis, Barnstable Village, Sandwich and Orleans.
