Wampanoag Charter School Regroups To Open in 2016

sack lunch schoolMASHPEE – The effort for the Wampanoag tribe to create a charter school for their native language recently hit a snag when the state decided the pre-application was not sufficient for approval.

Jennifer Weston is spearheading the development effort for the proposed school.

“We have been invited to meet with the [state]  Charter School Office staff to try to troubleshoot areas of our pr-eapplication that could be more intensively developed and where we could provide more detail,” she said.

Weston says one of the issues is how the subject matter at the school would fit into the Common Core curriculum.
