Wampanoag’s to Hold Christmas Craft Bazaar Fundraiser

KA_Mashpee_Wampanoag_Native American Thanksgiving32112115MASHPEE – The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe is holding a holiday event this weekend to honor the founder and first director of its housing department.

The Alice May Lopez Memorial Foundation will host a Christmas Craft Bazaar on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Tribe’s Community & Government Center on Great Neck Road South in Mashpee.

All the proceeds from the fair will go to the Alice May Lopez Memorial Fund and will be used to pay for a statue to commemorate Lopez.

Lopez, who unexpectedly died at the age of 49 in 2011, worked to provide safe, affordable housing to Tribal members because, as she said, “nobody should be homeless in their homeland.”

The Christmas Craft Bazaar will host a variety of vendors, both Native and non-native.

The vendors will feature hand-crafted items including jewelry, artwork and knitted clothing along with homemade food items, such as herbs and preserves.

The fair is free and open to the public.

Donations for the memorial fund will also be accepted at the fair.
