WAREHAM – Wareham Police, Fire and EMS crews responded to a fatal accident early this morning on Charge Pond Road, just north of the YMCA facility.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers noted two extensively damaged vehicles, as one of the vehicles was overturned on its roof, and the other had extensive front-end damage.
After assessing injuries at the scene, police noticed that the driver of the overturned vehicle, 45-year-old Raymond Cardoza Jr. of Onset, was deceased.
The other driver, 35-year-old Richard Hollis of Wareham, was noticed to have a serious leg and hip injury and was transported to Rhode Island Hospital Trauma Center.
There were no other occupants in each of the vehicles.
Police say the vehicle driven by Cardoza was traveling south on Charge Pond Road, while the vehicle driven by Hollis was traveling north when the collision occurred just after 12 a.m.
The accident is being investigated by Wareham Police and the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section.
