Wellfleet Police Find Body of Missing Yarmouth Man

FlemingWELLFLEET – Wellfleet Police have found the body of a missing Yarmouth man.

Police say that they found the body of 56 year old William Fleming around 11:46 a.m. today in the marsh area off Lt. Island in Wellfleet.

Members of the search team were able to work their way through the marsh after a drone found the body, and the search team was able to identify the person as William Fleming.

“We still don’t know why, there’s a lot of questions that need to be answered,” said Wellfleet Police Chief Ron Fisette. “As with any unattended death, State Police will become the lead agency now. We will assist them in any way we can and they will look into the cause and nature of what happened.”

Fleming, a former Barnstable firefighter, had been missing since December 20 and his vehicle was found on Monday in a secluded area off Lt. Island.

As the days continued without finding Fleming, Fisette said they never stopped looking.

“We didn’t know, he could’ve been picked up, he could’ve been sitting somewhere else, we don’t know,” said Fisette. “All we were focused on at the time was just making sure that we did the best that we could with our little section of the world, the Cape, to make sure he wasn’t in need.”
